Recom Systems Limited presents Smart Grid solution where unconventional energy sources with fluctuating power generation are successfully integrated into the smart grid along with the existing generation systems.

Smart Grid integrates Power Systems with Telecom and Information technology and planning is being done for 2020 and 2050 integrated systems. there are many sub-systems are still in concept stage or development stage. Very high power storage batteries capable of storing Mega Watts are under development by Japanese companies. These systems can store electric power from the Solar Panels and Wind Generators and supply to the grid as continuous power. The very high power silicon devices capable of switching kilowatts per device are under development and trial. These high power devices will be used in the Mega Watt invertors and supply to the grid a continuous power.

Load shedding as adopted by many countries results in unstable grid and creates very high load conditions on Generators and Transmission lines due to transients. These high power transients result in damaging both distribution networks, substations, transmission insulators and Generator windings due to reverse voltages. The fluctuating power from unconventional energy sources does the same damage due to reverse voltage transients. Losses are in Billions of $'s due to equipment going faulty and power outages.

Smart Grid supported by intelligent systems can save these losses and eventually pay for itself in 3 to 5 years of implementation. Besides natural problems there are other problems facing the electrical companies in distribution networks is rapid increase in load in rich pockets of society. The high usage of air conditioning  power in developing countries is major cause of power shortage. Rapid industrialization is also significantly increasing the load on the Power Grids. Enhanced generation capacity is rapidly absorbed by increase in usage.

In many countries power is subsidized or even given free to the farmers, resulting in excessive use in farm resorting to irrigation by by tube wells. The transmission and distribution losses are excessive in case of the normal grid and Smart grid can reduce these losses considerably.

Distributed power generation has been adopted by many countries and in some countries a standby Generators are installed along with the substation to support 100% power back up in event of the supply failure from the Grid.
