Towers are designed to support antennas for telecommunications and broadcasting, including television. Tower location is guided by the Radio Spectrum coverage design and this design decides the height of the tower as well number of antennas to be mounted. Before a tower location is approved it has to go through number of clearances including Municipal Corporation, Airport Authorities, Wireless Planning Wing and many other authorities. Design must be optimized before approvals are sought. This is probably the most tough area of any wireless network. Design must also take into account maximum wind speed, ice loading and other parameters before tower is constructed. If tower is constructed on the roof top the design of the building structure must be able to bear the stress load under high wind and earthquake conditions.
Line of sight coverage is very important for towers supporting microwave links along with the antennas of radio systems. Wave guides must be properly tied to the tower structure and distance from the BTS equipment must be minimum. |
